Time off at City University

The Available Types of Time Off Chart provides a brief overview of each type of Time Off that CityU provides to employees, based on employment classification. For additional information, please refer to the HR Policies Manual.

Paid Time Off (PTO)

Personal Time Off is replenished, in total, annually on July 1st for all eligible employees. Newly hired full-time employees receive a pro-rated allotment of PTO upon successful completion of a 90- day Initial Hire Period


U.S. Paid Holidays 

Active full and part-time Staff and full-time Faculty receive a total of 11 paid holidays per year plus Winter Recess

Canada Paid Holidays 

   Leaves of Absence (LOA)

Requesting LOA:

  • Please email AskHR@CityU.edu to provide notice of absences lasting greater than five (5) continuous workdays, so that a determination can be made regarding eligibility for leave, and to identify any required supporting documentation*
  • Employees must provide at least 30 days advance notice for a foreseeable event. In the event of unforeseen circumstances, provide notice as soon as practicable


Reasons for Leave:

  • Your pregnancy-related disability
  • Parental leave
  • Your own serious health condition
  • The care of a family member due to their own serious health condition
  • Assisting a qualifying family member who has a “qualified exigency” related to active duty or call to active duty with the Armed Forces
  • The care of a qualifying family member who is a covered service member of the United States Armed Forces who has a serious injury or illness in the line of duty while on active duty, or is a veteran of the Armed Forces including the National guard and Reserves at any time within 5 years preceding treatment for a serious injury of illness
