ENROLLMENT & ELIGIBILITY
Who can enroll, when to enroll, and what events allow changes to your benefits.
Benefit Plan Year: July 1 – June 30
New Hire Enrollment: Enroll within 30 days of your hire date. Coverage begins the 1st of the month following (or coinciding with) your hire date.
Qualifying Life Events (QLEs): Make mid-year changes within 30 days of life events such as marriage, birth, or loss of other coverage. Supporting documentation is required.
Open Enrollment: Your annual opportunity to make benefit changes for the new plan year (typically held each May).
Who’s Eligible:
- Full-time employees
- Part-time employees working an average of 30+ hours/week (medical only)
- Legal spouses, registered domestic partners, and children up to age 26
- Dependent children with disabilities who require your support

FLEXIBILITY & TIME OFF
- Paid Vacation (for Staff): 10 days per year
- Paid Sick Leave: 12 days per year
- Academic Leave: 10 weeks (FT Faculty); 4 weeks (FT

- Paid Holidays: 11 days per year + Winter Recess (regular part-time staff)
- Bereavement: 5 days paid (regular part-time staff)
- Jury Duty: 5 days paid (regular part-time staff)

Enrollment Tips:
- Explore Your Options: For general benefits information and benefit rates, review the Benefits Guide and informational videos available on the Benefits Resource Hub. For full plan details, visit its corresponding page via the top navigation bar.
- Ask for Help: The Benefits Resource Center is available as your benefit help line advocate. Call 888-336-7463 or email brcca@usi.com
- Benefit Enrollment Through Workday: You must actively enroll or waive each benefit. Even if you decline benefits, you must provide beneficiary information for your University paid Life and AD&D insurance.
- Check Your Paystub: After enrolling, verify that your benefit deductions are correct.
- Don't Miss the Deadline: Submitting your benefit enrollment after your benefit effective date may result in benefit catch-up deductions or delayed enrollment.
